We’re DC’s Credit Union
District Government Employees Federal Credit Union (DGEFCU) is a democratically controlled financial cooperative.
We were created in the 1950s to serve the needs of District government employees at a time when many were struggling to make ends meet. With so few options many District government employees had fallen into a dangerous cycle of borrowing from loan sharks. Now more than 50 years later we’ve made over 18,000 loans totaling more than $125 million.
DGEFCU now serves over 10,000 members that include city government employees, employees of several large companies such as Black Entertainment Television, and the communities of Adams Morgan, Mount Pleasant, and Columbia Heights.
DGEFCU is committed to meeting the District’s needs through several and by supporting many community organizations.
If you’re a member your family also can join.
Unlike at a bank, members can serve on committees, all members can vote for the board of directors, and members can become a board member by running for office. As a cooperative we are member owned and member driven.
